Emergency Dentistry

If you experience pain due to an injury to your mouth, that’s a dental emergency. When it comes to your teeth, you want to be extra careful and respond quickly when there’s an issue. At Greenway Family Dental we offer extended hours, and we urge you to call us immediately if you believe you are experiencing a dental emergency.

If your tooth or teeth have been damaged, proper and timely treatment is of the utmost importance. That’s because your teeth and gums are made up of living tissue which can deteriorate or be compromised if the issue is ignored.

In addition, if you lose a filling or a crown, we will want to treat you as soon as possible. Without the filling or crown, the tooth stands unprotected and is vulnerable to more damage.

The following are a list of other dental emergencies that we can treat in our office:

  • Injured tooth
  • Chipped, cracked, or broken tooth
  • Tooth knocked out
  • Dislodged tooth
  • Lost filling or crown
  • Severe toothache
  • Bleeding or cut lips or gums
  • Burns due to hot foods

Responding to Dental Trauma

If you or a family member experiences an injury to the mouth or teeth or are experiencing severe pain, don’t panic. We recommend you call us immediately and we can give you advice over the phone as to how to best respond. We can also get you into the office and treat you or your loved one, so that the damage is minimized.

Pain, Swelling or Bleeding

There are immediate actions you can take if you or your loved one are experiencing pain, bleeding or swelling. If you have a severe toothache, for example, take an over-the-counter pain medication, then give us a call so we can deal with the immediate issue. For swelling, you can prepare an ice pack and apply it to the affected area. Finally, for bleeding, clean the wound and apply pressure.
